We all want to do everything possible to stay well and enjoy life to the fullest. Sometimes we may need assistance in achieving that goal. That's why an important part of Park Ridge Hospital's mission is to be a partner in community wellness and health. In this section, you will find information about a variety of programs offered to promote health and wellness.
Community Education and Health Screenings
Education plays a vital role in our ability to promote wellness and prevention in our community. Therefore, patient and community education are two of our most important services.
Our community education program evolved because we believe that, through education, we can empower others to develop an awareness of health, just as we safeguard the well being and interests of all patients. Development in health promotion and awareness programs allow those we serve to participate and obtain factual information that will assist them in making the informed decisions that may improve their health.
Programs offered through community education include a variety of health screenings offered throughout the year. We believe so strongly in our responsibility toward community wellness that we offer most screenings free of charge. Beginning in May 2003, screenings have been held throughout the community via our Wellness On Wheels mobile medical RV. This unit is a doctor's office on wheels, providing screenings, flu shots and basic health care services to the area's school system, senior centers and under-served populations.
In addition, we offer a series of monthly educational programs on a variety of health topics, from aging and dementia, the pros and cons of hormone replacement therapy, smoking cessation to joint pain programs. The programs are facilitated by our board certified physicians in their areas of specialization.
Some upcoming programs include cholesterol and healthy heart screenings, glucose (blood sugar) testing, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings and cervical and prostate cancer screenings.
