FASTER Emergency Room Service
With the 15,000 square foot Emergency Department expansion, Park Ridge Hospital began offering a guaranteed door-to-room wait of 20 minutes or less beginning in January, 2005. Failure to meet that goal results in the patient's choice of first-run movie tickets or restaurant gift certificates worth $20.

The new ER features a number of enhancements that ensure rapid access, quality care.
These include:

  • Six additional treatment rooms, for a total of 12 private rooms
  • An examination room dedicated to Pediatrics
  • A decontamination room
  • A new lobby and waiting room
  • A childrens' waiting room
  • A room and equipment dedicated to X-ray
  • A TV in each room
  • A Separate work area and lounge for Emergency Medical Services staff

Park Ridge Hospital's Emergency Department continues to operate 24/7. Highly skilled physicians and nurses provide care for all patients seeking treatment for illnesses or injuries too severe to be treated at Park Ridge Urgent Care.

Although a 20-minute or less wait is guaranteed, our quality of patient care is never compromised. A warm and effective team approach to emergency care is offered by an ER staff that has, combined, more than 100 years of experience. For more information, call 828-681-2141.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What hours can I use the Emergency Department?
Answer: The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to meet the needs of people with all types of emergencies.

Can I see my own physician if I come to the Emergency Room?

Answer: There is an Emergency Physician on duty at all times. If requested, a private physician with privilidges at Park Ridge Hospital can be called in consultation for treatment recommendations or if admission is needed.

What if I need the services of a specialist or a service not offered at PRH?

Answer: The Emergency Department keeps a daily list of speciality practice physicians who can be consulted as needed. If a patient requires a speciality not offered at Park Ridge, such as neuro or cardiac surgery, arrangements for transfer can be made.

Why do people that come in after I do get treated before me?

Answer: The nursing staff uses a system called triage, a french term meaning "to sort," which determines the priority of which patients are seen. Treatment is based on seeing the most critical or potentially critical patients first. All patients are assessed by an RN on arrival to determine the order in which they are to be seen.

Can my family go in with me for treatment?
Answer: Generally, visitors are limited to one person due to the privacy of other patients and to allow the Emergency Department staff the ability to be with and treat the patient. Additional visitors are alowed to enter at the discretion of the nursing staff based on the patient's need.

Why do I get more than one bill when I use the Emergency Department?

Answer: The hospital and physician bill are separate. You will also receive a separate bill for the Radiologist if you have x-rays, or the pathologist for certain lab tests. Typically, each physician speciality does their own billing.
